Q: What is my login information?

A: The username is your campus username with @'domain'.edu added to the end

  • username@unl.edu, username@unk.edu, username@unomaha.edu, username@nebraska.edu
  • The password is your campus or TrueYou password.

Q: How do I remove a forward from my MS365 email account?

A: ITS will remove all forwards to any non-University email address for you on December 31st, however if you would like to remove your forward prior to this date, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log into https://portal.office.com using your campus email address and TrueYou pswd.
  2. Select the 'Waffle' icon in the top left corner, then click 'Outlook'
  3. Across the top navigation bar, select the 'Settings Gear'
  4. On the right pop out pane, click on 'View All Outlook Settings' at the bottom.
  5. Navigate to the 'Forwarding' section (Mail-->Forwarding).
  6. Uncheck the box for 'Enable forwarding'
  7. Click 'Save'.

 

Q: How do I remove a forwarding rule from my MS365 email account?

A: If you have any email rules that auto-forward email to a non-University email address, they must be removed prior to December 31st or the messages will fail. Here are the steps to remove a rule:

  1. Log into https://portal.office.com using your campus email address and TrueYou pswd.
  2. Select the 'Waffle' icon in the top left corner, then click 'Outlook'
  3. Across the top navigation bar, select the 'Settings Gear'
  4. On the right pop out pane, click on 'View All Outlook Settings' at the bottom.
  5. Navigate to the 'Forwarding' section (Mail-->Rules).
  6. Click the 'Trashcan' icon (Delete rule) on the right hand side of any rule that forwards to a non-University email address.

 

Q: Why does my Microsoft profile not match my email address, for example “username@campus.edu" instead of "username@something.campus.edu"? eg: herbie@unl.edu instead of herbie@huskers.unl.edu

A: If you use any Microsoft service (Office, Outlook, etc.), you have a Microsoft account. The account located in your Microsoft profile is the Microsoft account you are using to access your  email service. While it looks like an email, it is just a unique identifier for you on your campus. *Students with huskers.unl.edu email addresses will login with username@unl.edu but will not receive email if sent to username@unl.edu

 

Q: If my device won't automatically configure the email server settings, how do I manually set them?

A: Incoming IMAP Settings:

  • Server name: outlook.office365.com
  • Port: 993
  • Encryption method: SSL

    Outgoing SMTP Settings:

  • Server name: smtp.office365.com
  • Port: 587
  • Encryption method: TLS

 

Q: As a students when do I get my email account?

A: Once students have met with their advisor and/or enrolled in a class, an email account is assigned to them. It may take a day or so after the enrollment for an email account to be assigned. All official notifications are emailed to a students' University email account. It is important to check this account frequently. *Students are not eligible to download office until they are enrolled in a class.

 

Q: As a student, how do I know what my email address is?

A: The day after you met with your advisor or enrolled for your classes, find your email address by logging into your MyBlue, MyRed, or MavLink account and click on Email Address link located in the Profile section in the left menu.

 

Q: As an employee when do I get my email account?

A: Once employees have an officially assigned University role an email account will be automatically assigned. 

 

Q: As an employee, how do I know what my email address is?

A: The day after your email is ready, you can find your email address by logging into FireFly and clicking on Employee Self Service (ESS) and then on My Employment-Position Information and the email will be listed in the Work Address section.

 

Q: As a former employee what happens to my email?

A: Unless an employee is granted Emeritus status, IT services including email will be removed upon offboarding date.

All Former employees are subject to their campus offboarding policy. This is being re-evaluated as it relates to the new EM16. More information on EM16 can be found here https://its.nebraska.edu/policies-processes/responsible-use-of-university-computers-and-information-systems

 

Q: How do I set up Outlook for my campus email on my mobile device?

A: Download and install the official app from Microsoft

Q: How long can students keep their campus email account?

Current Students:

  • UNK - Once students are enrolled in a class, an email account is assigned to them. It may take a day or so after the enrollment for an email account to be assigned. All official notifications are emailed to a students' University email account. It is important to check this account frequently. 
  • UNL / UNO - Once students are admitted to the university an email account is assigned to them. It may take a day or so after admission for an email account to be assigned. All official notifications are emailed to a students' University email account. It is important to check this account frequently. *Students are not eligible to download Microsoft Office until they are enrolled in a class.

Past Students: Once an account is removed from the system data and email are not recoverable.

  • UNK - 2 years after the last day of enrollment
     
  • UNL - Access to email and other ITS services will end at the same time 2 semester after your last enrolled class or graduation.
     
  • UNO
    • Undergraduate Students - 2 years after last enrollment
    • Graduate Students - 4 years after last enrollment
    • Intercampus Students - UNO accounts are removed at the end of their last intercampus approved semester
    • ILUNO Students - Accounts are removed at the end of their last enrolled session
    • Alumni - 5 years after the conferral of their degree

 

Q: What is the maximum number of recipients for one email?

A: The maximum number of email recipients is 100. If you have a need to send more than this please contact support@nebraska.edu

 

Q: What is the largest email I can send?

A: The maximum total size of an email message, this includes the message header, the message body, and any file attachments is 50MB.

 

Q: How much storage space will I have?

A: Depending on role, your mailbox may be 49.5gb or 99.5gb. To check how much storage you are using, login to outlook on the web and click on the gear in the upper right. Click on view all outlook settings, then click on General, then on Storage.

 

Q: Do I need a Campus Email account if I already have a personal Microsoft account?

A: Yes, you need your campus email account. 

  • Your student email account provides the benefits of Microsoft in an ad-free environment.
  • You will need to use your campus email account for all campus notifications and emails.
  • Canvas will only communicate with you through your campus email account.

 

Q: Will my Campus Email affect my personal Microsoft account?

A: No, it does not. Campus Email is powered by Microsoft but it is separate from other email accounts you may have with Microsoft.
